R Lalique. LALIQU ST ODILE

THE VERY RARE RENE LALIQUE 'SAINTE ODILE' PENDANT

(Click on picture for a view with the chain.)

This very rare SAINTE ODILE pendant was produced in 1930 as a special advertising model for the 'Clos Sainte Odile' of the winemaker Weissenburger.

It is one of the very few non-commercial private commissions produced by Rene Lalique and was never available for sale in his shop.

The pendant is formed in a dramatic deep blue glass, frosted in the mould but polished on the front and on panels on the back. It is not known in any other colour.

This example of the Saint Odile pendant is of particular interest as it has an original metal chain that was only used on a couple of Lalique's pendants, usually religious ones.

Marcilhac records the pendant but it did not receive a factory product number as it was not for sale.

R Lalique. LALIQUE PENDANT x 3

THREE VERSIONS OF THE RENE LALIQUE ‘FIORET' PERFUME PENDANT

Two versions of the Rene Lalique pendant designed for FIORET PERFUME and a rare brooch presentation of the pendant.

The Rene Lalique glass pendants show a nude maiden standing or kneeling amongst flowering boughs.

The 'Fioret Pendant' was originally designed by RENE LALIQUE in 1924 as a gift presentation attached by ribbons to a bottle of FIORET perfume. The glass medallion could be fitted with silk cords and a tassel to be worn as a pendant. The glass of the pendant is thin and the design required back-lighting for best effect and was never totally successful as a pendant unless it had applied enamel "patine" as in the two examples presented here.

A popular conversion at the time was to make the medallion into a brooch presentation mounting it in silver or gold. Many of Lalique's brooches have coloured reflective foil backings to back light the subject and the FIORET pendant mounted as a brooch with reflective foil backing produced a rarer but much more successful presentation. The holes for the cords of a pendant would be filled with precious or semi-precious cut stones; in this example garnets have been used.
