Sometimes described as 'Salesman Samples', these are rare items but they are too prolific to be only produced as samples. Indeed, LIBERTY & Co on Regent's Street sold Loetz miniatures with cork stoppers in each one as perfume bottles and examples can still be found with a LIBERTY label attached to the bottom of the vase. Doubtless other shops throughout Europe retailed them in similar fashion as miniature vases have always been a popular addition to a collection. c 1904 (click on picture) Height 4cms. Signed. This is probably the smallest vase of the Loetz inventory to receive applied silver. The Loetz Candia Silberiris décor was a popular surface finish for the rare and much sought after technique of applied silver decoration. The silver is invariably of a high quality as this is easier to work on glass. This applied silver in a floral design with art nouveau whiplash forms is typical of silver work applied in America on vases acquired directly from the Loetz factory. The market for these vases was primarily in America; very few silver overlay Loetz vases were sold in England. C 1900 Height 9cms. Signature. Unsigned. Stock No. 150 PRICE: SOLD ![]() A VERY RARE CYTISUS LOETZ VASE OVELAYED WITH SILVER DÉCORA classic shaped small Loetz cabinet vase in the rare CYTISUS iridescence overlaid with applied silver décor. The Loetz CYTISUS décor was a rare iridescence developed in 1900 - 1902 when the Loetz designers were experimenting with numerous new colours and surface finishes. The rich blue ground spotted in silvery blue and rising to a pale peach colouration in the neck of the vase lends itself well to silver overlay décor. The majority of the applied silver décor found on LOETZ vases was executed in America on vases acquired directly from the Loetz factory. European applied silver work was often of a cubist style while American work was frequently more floral and typically with art nouveau whiplash forms. The silver on this vase is of the highest standard (999 parts to 1000) and bears the American marks of the Alvin Corporation. C 1902 (click on picture) Height 13cms. Signatures. Glass ~ Unsigned.
