A FINE GALLE CAMEO GLASS VASE WITH A DESIGN OF A LAKE AND MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE ON AN OPALESCENT GROUND
One of Galle's more classical vase forms, this shape with a bulbous base and slightly spreading foot suits well his design of a tall tree with mountain landscape receding into the distance with a wooded lakeside in the foreground.
The clear ground glass has a pale yellow opalescence shading from the neck with overlay cameo glass layers in pale blue and deep amethyst. This blue colour was developed by Galle
in 1890 and this is one of his most popular and sought after colour ways.
Each cameo glass layer has been subjected to two acid etchings and a polishing to give the details of the design but the pale blue layer of the water in the lake has been cleverly left with a matt finish to suffuse into the yellow of the ground colour.
Signature. Intaglio Script signature Galle
in the amethyst cameo.

A CLASSIC GALLE CAMEO GLASS CABINET VASE WITH A WISTERIA DESIGN IN THREE OVERLAY COLOURS
This classic Galle cabinet vase with tall neck and bulging base displays the popular three colour cameo glass overlay pendant Wisteria design with the branches of the Wisteria blossom cascading from the neck of the vase.
The ground colour is frosted clear glass giving a white ground with internal suffusions of pink to the neck and bowl of the vase. The pendant Wisteria design is in deep purple and olive green overlay glass but with a third white layer beneath the two colours which makes the colours of the flowers and leaves opaque. The outer green cameo layer has received one acid etching while the purple layer has experienced two acid etchings.
This is a classic colour way for this Galle
design but untypically the flowers in the cameo layers have been polished while the leaves have been left with a matt finish. The background pink and white ground has a matt finish with a suffusion of matt purple to the base.

A MINIATURE 'MOULE SOUFLE' CHRYSANTHEMUM CAMEO GLASS VASE BY GALLE
The 'Moule Soufle' (mould blown) vases of Galle are usually of monumental size as this allows for full use of this relatively rare and expensive technique which works to best advantage with bulbous images such as fruits, especially plums.
This vase is thought to be the smallest example of a 'Moule Soufle' cameo vase where only the central head of the deep crimson cameo Chrysanthemum flower illustrates the technique. The added interest of the contrasting applied handles suggest that these small pieces may have been experimental as both techniques are relatively scarce in the Galle

A VERY RARE GALLE CAMEO VASE ~ 'SAILING BOATS' DESIGN
This Galle cameo vase is rare in several respects. The form of the vase is very unusual, the subject 'sailing boats' although used by other glass houses is especially rare for Galle and blue colours were seldom used in the art nouveau period when 'earth' colours were thought less vulgar.
The thick bodied clear base glass has suffused internal layers of blue and orange while the outer cameo layers are also blue with amethyst. A very unusual design of river sailing boats has been acid etched on to the vase with the boats and wave details in amethyst over blues which form the water and shading of the sky. Under different lighting conditions, the internal colours come into effect and alter the sky and background colours.
Signature. Neat Galle
script signature in the cameo on reverse.

A VERY RARE GALLE 'BLACK GLASS' EXPERIMENTAL VASE
A very rare experimental vase from the 'Hyalith Glass' series first produced by Galle for the 1889 Paris International Exhibition.
Hyalith 'Black Glass' vases are exceedingly rare and were usually hand carved. This experimental example has a design of leaves and pendant berries that has been created by acid etching, not hand carving. The acid etched cameo layer looks black, but when viewed in strong sunlight, the surfaces of the berries take on a dark blue opalescence.
The cameo layer also displays evidence of polishing which has removed the opalescence from the leaves at the top of the design leaving a deep amber colour glass.
The 'Galle' signature is hidden in the body of the glass.(click on pictures)
